PATRICK PETERSON CAR BLOG: REVIEWING THE FISKER KARMA

Welcome to this week’s “P2’s Keys to the Ride.” If this is your first time reading welcome. If you’ve been by before thanks for coming back.

You know in football I’m all about working to make my self better each and everyday, and that carries over to life. The only way I know how to improve myself is to push limits and take on new experiences.

How does this relate to cars? Well, much like I did in Week 2, when I played some snaps on offense, I’m stepping out of my muscle car element. This week the blog is going green!

The featured car this week is the Fisker Karma, a car that combines electricity, solar power, and generators to create “the first electric luxury vehicle.” I’m not going to waste too much on the specs and details of the car, but if you're interested you should look it up. It’s pretty legit.

Please, please don’t be fooled. Just because this is a “green” car doesn’t mean it doesn’t have power. In fact, the Karma has 403 horsepower, while averaging 50 miles per gallon. If you’re smart you can extended the gas mileage to almost 100 mpg, as the Karma has a range of 50 miles before switching to its gasoline-powered generators.

When driving the Karma you sit real low, making you feel like you’re flying a jet. I did misjudge the Karma’s power at first, but with one push of the pedal you can instantly feel the acceleration the car has. Hands down though, the most enjoyable experience of the Karma is how it handles around curves, because the design of the car helps the car hug the road.

But I’m not sure how I feel about the sound of the engine. I'm used to the classic roar of my muscle cars, but the Karma almost sounds like one of those fighter jets in "Star Wars." I’m not saying it’s bad, but it might take some time to get used to it, you know?

In the style and design department the Karma almost looks like a BMW. That's because Fisker has some BMW roots, as it was designed by Henrik Fisker, who also created the BMW Z8.

I’m not going to lie -- I could stare at this car for hours. It’s that gorgeous and really tells you that it’s made for a great driving experience. I can even say that the solar panel on the top of the car ads to the beauty of this machine.

Well that’s all for this week guys. As always, thanks again for reading and don't forget to follow me on Facebook and Twitter @RealPeterson21.

The Arizona Cardinals' second-year cornerback and kick returner has a passion for muscle cars and will review automotive trends throughout the season on his "P2's Keys to the Ride" blog. Peterson's dynamic rookie year included tying a single-season NFL record with four touchdowns on punt returns. A unanimous All-American at LSU, the 6-1, 219-pound Peterson was the fifth overall pick of the 2011 draft after turning in the second-fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
