CLIFF AVRIL: TOP FIVE AIR FORCE ONES

This week I will be bringing you my top 5 Air Force Ones of all time, but I want to bring you a little sneaker history first. Some of you probably first heard about the AF1 from Nelly, but the first line was released all the way back in 1982. Originally released as a basketball shoe, the AF1 became popular in the hip-hop scene and grew to be one of Nike’s most celebrated models. Today there are so many options with AF1s it is impossible to collect them all. You can even go to 21 Mercer St. and create your own Nike iD Bespoke custom AF1s with an unlimited amount of options and you get to witness your shoe created right before your eyes. So that’s a little history for you, now see how my top 5 stacks up against yours.

1.     AF1 Lux “Crocodile”

I really like this colorway because it goes well with slacks or something a little more formal.

2.     AF1 “Black History Month”

I love this shoe for what it stands for and also it features the colors of my alma mater.

3.     AF1 “West Indies”

I like this shoe because it represents my heritage because my family is from Haiti.

4.     AF1 Lux “White/White”

I wear a lot of white on white AF1s, but these are unique because they have patent leather and a clear bottom. This is one of my all-time favorites

5.     AF1 “Clear and Invisible”

I had to throw these in there. Haha I remember back in the day I thought these were so cool, but now I would never wear them. It just shows how your taste in kicks can be continually changing.

Well that’s my Top 5 AF1s let me know what you think in the comments section below and be sure to follow me in Twitter @cliffavril.

The Detroit Lions DE keeps SOTL.com readers up to date on athletic footwear throughout the season with his "Cliff's Kicks" blog. The 6-3, 260-pound Avril led the Lions in sacks and forced fumbles last season, and had a pair of touchdown returns. The Purdue graduate was a late arrival at training camp this season, staying home in part so he could be at his son Xavier's first birthday party.
