QB Alex Smith making big strides in 49ers offense
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Alex Smith is an expert. So says Jim Harbaugh, and he's the one who truly matters on this topic.
Harbaugh figures it typically takes a quarterback two full seasons in a new offense to become a so-called expert.
In the case of Smith, however, he's already right there if you ask the 49ers coach.
Smith got a chuckle out of hearing that the reigning NFL Coach of the Year was dishing out such high praise after practice Thursday, and he hardly believes he has mastered Harbaugh's unique version of the West Coast offense.
While Harbaugh says his starters might play more in the team's second preseason game Saturday at Houston, he has already seen plenty from Smith on the field to be confident as his second training camp winds down.
Larry Stevens this is a very talented 49er team would like to see them in playoffs
Chris Jones The 49ers has a rough defense
Brandon Sanders Helix pride love Alex Smith!!!!
Courtney Brown The niners are looking good. They are going to be tough with that defense this year. Gives Smith and the offense less pressure to perform
Troy Drayton He has alot of toys, now lets see what he does with them.
Chidi Ahanotu Craig I agree Alex Smith has shown great resiliency. Coaching changes are tough. Real tough. But still not sure if he will ever amount to a great one even with a consistent regime.
Orson Mobley I will be shocked if the forty niners are not contenders for a championship it will all come down to the play of A Smith, and with the added weapons around him they will be tough to beat. Green Bay will be the measuring stick
Reggie Givens It's going to be a big season for A.Smith!! Harbaugh is going to open up the offense this year..
Chidi Ahanotu Randy Moss is the best thing that couldve happened for Alex Smith
Craig McEwen 11-5 , NFC West Champs. Stay Healthy. Best record.?... tall order but schdule permits
