RYAN CLADY BLOG: CHECK OUT THESE BURRITOS

Welcome back everyone. I got a lot of very cool feedback last week. I appreciate you guys checking out this blog. I am planning some pretty cool features in the future so please keep coming back.

I have had a busy couple of weeks with family in town so we have been doing a lot of eating at home. Today I am featuring a new favorite of mine in the organic food industry. For those who have been following on Facebook and Twitter, understand that I have had a long relationship with EVOL (Love Spelled Backwards) Foods Inc.  EVOL Foods has been a frequent freezer-filler at my places in LA and Denver.

The first time I tried their products was at the 2010 Winter X-Games where they were the sponsors for the family/athlete lounge. My buddy Alex and I had been looking for something to eat that wasn’t junk food and EVOL came to the rescue. EVOL Burritos are made from scratch, and they are all-natural frozen burritos.

We took down a couple of chicken and bean burritos and the rest is history. Since then they have released a lot of different products from burrito bowls (gluten free) to some amazing flatbreads. The latest release is the product I recently picked up, which is their new Chipotle Chicken Premium Big Burritos.

I have only one complaint about EVOL burritos. Where are the "Big Boys" burritos? Obviously, when you are producing all-natural burritos you are looking to help with portion control as well, but the first set of burritos that EVOL produced was super small. I usually had to eat two to feel satisfied.

I know what you're thinking. Eating two burritos kind of ruins the whole point of eating healthy, because of the extra carbs from the tortillas. That's why I'd rather have a bigger burrito packed with more of the ingredients inside. This way, bigger guys like me can enjoy one burrito and feel satisfied and still not overeat.

So I was excited when I heard EVOL launched some of these bigger burritos. I went and picked some up at Whole Foods.  I could immediately tell that these burritos were bigger than the regular burritos. (11 ounces, to be exact.)

I went to work and cooked one up. First thing I noticed was the sauce was awesome. And just about every single bite included a piece of chicken. It never ceases to amaze me how the flavor is so good from a frozen burrito.

I attribute that to the LOVE (pun intended) they put into putting these together from scratch with nothing but natural ingredients. Overall it was pretty solid. I could always use more chicken but I definitely was satisfied with the size and didn’t need to cook up another one. Props to EVOL foods for catering to us big guys!

For those looking to pick these up check out the website www.EvolFoods.com. They have a great locator to find every store that carries their products. If you do, the info below will be very important.

Thanks again for stopping by. Let me know if you guys have any comments and again if you guys recommend a restaurant or a certain food I can go try out, please let me know.

I will tell you that there is an art to making your frozen burritos. You can just pop it into the microwave and chow down. But if you want to be able to savor all the awesome flavors that EVOL has I am going to give you some quick tips.

1. Let the burrito thaw overnight, by moving it from your freezer to the refrigerator.
2. When you're ready to eat, pull the burrito out and wrap it in foil.
3. Pop it in the oven for 30 minutes.
4. Pull it out of the oven and take the burrito out of the foil.
5. Use a panini press (or pan fry) and cook the burrito for two minutes, making sure both sides get a little toasty.
6. Grub down!

Extra Love (O lineman special haha)
1. Buy some salsa of your choice and pour it on top.
2. Melt some cheese of your choice on top.
3. Cut up some avocados.

The Denver Broncos offensive tackle and food enthusiast takes SOTL.com readers on a culinary journey with his "Foodie: Ryan Clady" blog. Clady hasn't missed a start in his first four seasons and last year his blocking was a key factor in Denver racking up a franchise record 164.5 rushing yards per game. The 6-6, 315-pound Clady is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and anchored the offensive line for the 2006 Boise State team that went 13-0 and won the Fiesta Bowl.
