RYAN CLADY's FOODIE BLOG: "Taste of Colorado"

As I mentioned in my first entry blog, I am going to be featuring my trip to the 2012 Taste of Colorado. The day I decided to attend was Saturday September 1st.
I had family in town so I thought it would be a good way to get everyone out of the house. I had attended the Taste of Colorado my rookie season but had not returned since that time.
My first impressions were how crazy the growth of the event was. There were a ton of people and vendors. I read somewhere that over 500,000 people visited this festival. That’s pretty crazy. Lots of food and drinks to have.
I usually try to stay low-key at these events but having my nephews and nieces and little sister there made that hard. They wanted to stop and taste just about everything. This was OK for them, but I was a week away from my first regular-season game, and of my contract year too, so I had committed myself in the offseason to watching my weight so I can perform well this season.
I tried my hardest to limit the tasting I had. Thank God I could use the excuse of being out of tickets when they wanted to continue to start tasting. I just entertained them a little with some of the live performances that were going on and the different vendors showing off their art.
Now to the good part. The food. Like I said I tried to limit myself but there is only so much a man can take when everyone around you is enjoying their samples. Oh, and the smells from all the different BBQ’s and sweets stands didn’t help either. Here were some of my favorites.
Famous Dave’s BBQ. Obviously you can't go wrong with a solid BBQ chicken, and their sauce is great. The Mamma From Heaven Gourmet Food Truck had some amazing pot stickers, everything on their menu looked great and they had some healthy stuff that saved me a little.
Then as far as food, being an offensive lineman I had to go with a gourmet turkey leg. Last but not least I had to make a pit stop at the stand that was creating the most Buzz at the TOC. A little dessert. I made a stop at the Fried Oreo vendor station. One word to describe this Oreo was “BOMB.” The Oreo was hot and chewy, almost like a donut crust.
It took every ounce of self-control not to go back and have a second Oreo. Of course everyone who was with me had seconds, just to make me feel bad. Jerks. (Just kidding.) I would say overall that fried Oreo really made the trip downtown worth it.
Did any of you guys go to “A taste of Colorado”? Let me know which were you favorite vendors and I will make sure and hit those up next year.
